CoP Webinar: Nondiscrimination, OCR Section 1557, Interpreters, Taglines, Patient Rights and Conditions of Participation

This webinar will discuss a law that applies to all hospitals and other healthcare providers, such as nursing homes.  Topics to be address include the required two signs to be posted, patient rights statements, staff training and required policies and procedures.  The requirements for an identified individual to address any grievances on discrimination and interpreters will also be discussed.  To be covered is section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act which builds on the long-standing and familiar Federal Civil Rights laws.  This is the first law to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in health programs and activities.  This program will discuss case law regarding several issues important to hospitals.  Hospitals are required to have a policy on non-discrimination and must education staff on such.  Patients must be notified in a language they can understand and how to file a complaint should they encounter discrimination.
